Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll probably know that the venerable music institution that is Parr Street Studios turned 25 last year. Always looking forward, to celebrate their 25 years in the business, they’ve commissioned 25 videos which represent the wealth and breadth of talent within Liverpool’s musical roster. For example, we recently premiered the spandex-clad polyrhythmic collective Barberos in session with a masked choir made up of members of Hooton Tennis Club, All We Are, Stealing Sheep and Dialect. Well, we’re back with ALL WE ARE (unmasked) and multidisplinary experimentalists A.P.A.T.T.
Both groups relished working in the studio together, with All We Are recognising the unconvential approach a.P.A.t.T. brought to their track Punch. “We loved being part of the 25 years of Parr Street. There was a real sense of family and involvement with all the bands collaborating on each other’s sessions and you really got a sense of the vibrancy and diversity of the Liverpool scene. Working on Punch with a.P.A.t.T was especially cool. They really brought out the different elements of the song and expanded upon the weird and wonderful moments in the arrangement while at the same time adding their own stamp. Also, at this age of home recordings, it’s always a joy to go into such a historic place like Parr Street, it really makes you appreciate what a great studio can bring out in your music and add to your work.”
Likewise, a.P.A.t.T enjoyed the process and the chance to work in the studios: “Recording in Parr Street is like a slice of Liverpool music life personified. Thinking that’s where they went, I handed my first band’s demo into Amazon [Parr Street Studios’ original name] when I was 12. It’s a world-class studio with a rich heritage of seminal recordings from Brutal Truth to Phil Collins’ toms. Most musicians would bite off their own ear for an opportunity to make music there, and a.P.A.t.T. being asked to collaborate with All We Are live allowed us to flex our weird bone over AWA’s heavy, anthemic vibes.”
You can watch the fruits of their collective labour below. Punch – the closing track from All We Are’s 2017 album Sunny Hills – sounds even more atmospheric, a.P.A.t.T’s flourishes complimenting an earthshaking delivery from the trio.
