Of course, every day is Record Store Day but there is still something special about that Saturday in April when vinyl emporiums get stocked up with some rare treats and us record obsessives flock to Liverpool’s wax institutions to get our grubby mitts on limited editions and special releases. To ensure you have a fool-proof plan for record store day in Liverpool this year here is our guide to what’s on and where.
Purveyors of the finest vinyl, Dig kick things off early at Sound Food and Drink with Before Their Was Record Store Day There Were Record Shops. Taking place a week before the day itself the Bold Street muso’s bring together some of their favourite city taste makers for DJs set going well into the evening. Representatives from THE VRYLL SOCIETY, LIVERPOOL DISCO FESTIVAL and JACARANDA RECORDS will be spinning discs as will decks doyens BERNIE CONNOR, HOWLING RHYTHM and POSITIVE VIBRATION.
14/04 – 5pm til late
Vinyl hub Jacaranda will once again be must-go location for Record Store Day in Liverpool. As well as selling records on all three floors there be live music, competitions and other perks for vinyl heads. MELLOWTONE will be showcasing a set of artists from their salubrious stable including NICK ELLIS and DAVE O’GRADY playing live. Upstairs punters are invited to play their favourite records to be in with a chance of winning £100 of official releases. In the basement there’ll be crate diggers heaven as Penningtons are selling pre-loved wax treasures. Into the evening a roll call of fantastic local artists will be playing in support of their own Record Store Day releases, including SUB BLUE, ASTLES and AMIQUE AND THE ECSTACY.
New kids on the block 81 Renshaw will be stocking the full complement of Record Store Day releases to give Liverpool based vinyl voyagers another chance of getting that rare release. Get there for 8am to be in with a chance of getting the record you want (as well as a coffee). There’ll also be live performances in the café’s venue space which will double up as a secondary record shop for the day.
Venerable institution Probe will once again be a beacon for Record Store Day in Liverpool. The School Lane store will be stocking all the weird and wonderful releases which this year includes records from the likes of THE CORAL, KATE NASH, THE WAR ON DRUGS and a tonne more.
