19-09 – Philharmonic Music Room
Cameroon’s BLICK BASSY returns to Liverpool in support of his critically lauded album 1958. The concept LP is a tribute to independence leader Ruben Um Nyobé, a hero in the history of Bassy’s home nation.
The 2019 release follows Akö, which cemented Bassy’s unique style blending afrobeat with latino stylings and the haunting vocal of bluesman Skip James.
This rearranged date at the Philharmonic Music Room, organised by Africa Oyé, will provide not only musical virtuosity but a craftsmen and visionary addressing themes of neo-colonialism, identity and an ode to heroes.
