Chester-based record label Mai 68 are circumnavigating the music industry by way of Flexi Disc for their new initiative. Starting with a 24th September release of psych folk dream weavers SUNSTACK JONES and spinning through nine more monthly releases, Mai 68 Flexi Club offers an antidote to blocked pressing plants and soulless streaming to give subscribers something to treasure.
An impressive roster of North West artists are signed up and at just £5 a release, the scheme is a fantastic way to luxuriate in the ephemeral. “Flexi is the ultimate DIY medium” says Mai founder Si Jones. “It’s fast to produce, it’s cost effective and it’s ultimately disposable. By playing it, you destroy it in the process.”
BY THE SEA, ANN-JANE HOUGHTON and CAMPFIRE SOCIAL are amongst the artists lined up for 7″ releases. General release follows subscription offers and there are 10 discs to complete the selection.
Can’t Go Back Home by Sunstack Jones is released on 24th September. 50 suscriptions for first five releases are available from 27th August. General sale from 3rd September.
