As we wring out the last vesitges of summer, this blast of familiarity will hopefully be a beacon of light for you in our post-normal world. For the past four months we’ve had the pleasure of hosting an exclusive weekly live mix for you, a slice of Africa Oyé delivered direct to your ears. We’re continuing to brighten up your weekends by bringing you these sets, in partnership with Melodic Distraction Radio, in what have become a vital dose of that trademark Oyé vibe. There’s nothing that says summer in Liverpool like an Oyé-soundtracked afternoon in the park. Recorded live at Africa Oyé in 2019, each mix is part of a series of DJ sessions from the Trenchtown and Freetown stages, where the sounds of Afro-centric music are pumped out non-stop to keep the groove riding high in Sefton Park.

As we near the end of this summer, we also near the end of this series: but we’ve still got some corkers still to bring you! This week’s mix, the 18th mix in the series, comes from ELLIOT HUTCHINSON. Crate ‘n’ counter guru at Liverpool’s Dig Vinyl record store and king of the cover version, Elliot has brought weird, wonderful and worldly 45s to the younger ear for over a decade. His set at Freetown on Sunday last year brought the curtain down on the 2019 festival, and we can think of no better person to be in charge of that. This mix is high on grooves and fun, and will get you dancing along with the highlife and reggae gems like you’re right there in Sefton Park.
